Interview Questions
The Interview is where you sell yourself as an employee to your potential future employer. Focus on your qualifications, experience, and abilities - on your strengths. The objective is to get an offer. And you'll only have half an hour or so to do it, maybe less. If an offer is forthcoming, its terms will be shaped largely by what happens during that half-hour or so.
The following tips will help you make a strong and positive impression:
Your appearance is extremely important. In addition to being neat and clean, suitable business attire is essential. For the most professional appearance, the best option for both men and women is always a suit. The best colors for interviewing are black, dark brown, navy or gray tones. Women may also choose a skirt or dress and blazer. Men should always wear a tie. Hair should be neat and pulled off your face and conservatively styled; makeup should be light and professional.
Make sure to have a portfolio or folder with several resumes (at least 6) with you. An appointment book/planner is recommended for any future interviews that may need to be arranged.
Arrive 10 minutes early for your appointment, unless instructed to arrive earlier. If you have to wait, be patient and use the time constructively - complete all paperwork neatly and complete.
Always greet the receptionist warmly and professionally – they are the "gatekeeper" and your impression with them could either help or harm you.
Stand up to greet your interviewer with a firm handshake and a smile. Follow him/her to the interview room.
Maintain a good conversational style and think about your responses before answering.
Ask intelligent questions about the company, your responsibilities and what you can expect in the future.
Contract positions are ideal for candidates that are in between jobs. You can continue to earn an income and keep your resume free of employment gaps. In addition, a contract position could lead to a full-time opportunity.
Sell yourself --- you are special!!
Tip: Nothing contributes to a successful interview more than a good night's sleep - be sharp, be alert, be on... and be prepared - read Common Interview Questions and you'll know what they're going to ask before they do.
