As the Business Operations Manager you will be reporting to the Controller. You will ensure timely and accurate financial reporting of Dominican University’s activity related to tuition, expenses, investments and accounts receivable.
The Assistant Controller will manage the financial reporting system for reporting general ledger transactions. You will be responsible for the maintenance of the chart of accounts and timely completion of general ledger reconciliations, including but not limited to all statement of position accounts.
The Assistant Controller must have a thorough knowledge of GAAP principles and applications. The Assistant Controller will manage outside auditors to ensure timely and efficient audits, as well as manage and supervise assigned staff along with establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with co-workers and staff members at all levels of Dominican University.
This is a full-time exempt position. Salary is between $85,000 - $88,000 depending on experience.

Responsibilities
• Manage monthly closing process and ensure accurate internal financial statement presentation and reporting, in a timely manner.
• Work with staff to prepare journal entries for accruals and month-end close.
• Coordinate or compile financial statements and other filings in compliance with GAAP, creditors, or other reporting requirements.
• Manage all general accounting activities, including reconciliation of statement of position accounts. Supervise the general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Prepare or review all monthly statement of position account reconciliations, including cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and restricted / endowment fund reconciliations.
• Actively recommend and implement ways to improve, streamline, and automate the current systems, financial results, and accounting processes.
• Manage Grant Accounting and Reporting activities, including discussion and coordination with grant managers and principle investigators.
• Establish and maintain internal controls. Audit work flow to assure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized.
• Hire, train, motivate and supervise exempt and non-exempt accounting staff.
• Prepare reports for executive management as requested.
• Manage outside auditors to ensure timely and efficient audits, including preparation of year-end packages and audit schedules preparation.
• Coordinate all reporting requirements and enhancements with Information Technology Department, as required.
• Assist the Controller in all areas of the Business Services Office, including supervising and motivating staff.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s in accounting, finance or related field. CPA preferred.
• Minimum five years of experience in accounting or comparable experience, preferably at a higher education institution.
• Proficiency with state and federal tax and regulatory codes relating to tax exempt entities preferred.
• Must carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable laws. Exhibit principles of supervision, including employee recruitment, training, development, and performance evaluation.
• Must have knowledge of accounting software. Great Plains and Power Campus experience preferred.
• Experience in establishing and implementing financial and operational polices and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure in a fast-paced and demanding environment, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
• Works and collaborates well within a team environment.
• Provide a service-oriented approach to clients, both internal and external.
• Flexibility and willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Must be willing to consent to a background investigation.
