The eBay Messaging team is looking for a Staff Software Engineer who can play a leading role in defining and designing the messaging infrastructure for one of the world's largest e-commerce sites. This infrastructure plays a key part in enabling eBay to be massively scaleable. Be part of the team that reliably sends and receives millions of business critical messages each day! We are looking for an innovative engineer to define, design, and develop eBay’s messaging and asynchronous processing infrastructure. Candidates must have previous industry experience with well known messaging middleware products such as Tibco, JMS products, MQ Series, or Advanced Queuing.
Primary job duties:
- Build scalable, highly reliable, high-volume, complex distributed systems
- Apply problem solving and analytical skills to variety of issues
- Interact with cross functional teams to produce win-win solutions
- Provide technical design vision for asynchronous processing and articulate the vision across the company
- Estimate engineering effort and come up with realistic schedules
- Identify and resolve complex production issues in eBay backend components
- Share production support/on-call duties
- Document best practices and help create knowledge base
- Create training materials for developers and conduct training sessions
- Facilitate problem diagnosis and resolution
Technologies:
- In depth knowledge of messaging middleware
- In depth knowledge of databases (Oracle preferred)
- Proficient in Java and C++
- Comfortable developing on both Windows and UNIX
- Expert in multi-threaded, concurrent programming
- Familiar with networking including TCP/IP, UDP, PGM protocols

- 7+ years of large scale, full lifecycle development experience and at least 3 years as a lead engineer, preferably at a high-volume online company.
- 7+ years developing in Java
- 2+ years developing in C++
- 3+ years using messaging middleware products, preferably in a high-volume environment
- 5+ years experience required in object-oriented design methodology and development in Java, including JMS, JDBC, Servlets, JSP.
- BSCS (or equivalent) plus 7+ years of professional related experience or Master's Degree and 5+ years, or Doctorate and 3+ years of experience.
