Job Description
Our client is currently seeking an experienced Director of Technology to join their organization.
The Director of Technology’s role is to align technology vision with business strategy by integrating company processes with the appropriate technologies. To provide leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives which create and maintain leadership for the enterprise in a constantly changing and intensely competitive marketplace.
The Director of Technology is also responsible for research and development of emerging and new technologies and to educate and influence the IT leadership and management. The role will chair the Architecture Review Team (technology board) which meets weekly to review and approve technology selections and design. This individual maintains existing enterprise systems, while providing direction in all technology-related issues in support of information operations and core company values.
Compensation: $160k

Proven leadership with ability to lead multiple team’s configurations in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment

A willingness to mentor people inside/outside of the Information Technology department on best practices, system design principles, and computing industry trends

Ability to assist junior team members with their professional development

Ability to mesh well with the existing management team by being a good listener, a team builder and an articulate advocate of their business and technical vision

Five or more years of similar experience in Leadership roles

Strong expertise with the end-to-end implications and technologies of all scales

Experience designing, estimating, and implementing technology architectures
-
Expertise in enterprise architecture practices, specifically in information, application, infrastructure and security
-
Experience with data warehouses and complex information management problems
-
Skilled at identifying and evaluating new technological developments and gauging their appropriateness for the business
-
Ability to conceptualize, launch and deliver multiple IT projects on time and within budget
-
Able to articulate the tradeoffs at the application, system, and department level to the internal customer in a credible way during the whole lifecycle of the technology adoption to decommission. To clearly explain issues of reliability, scalability, and extensibility with respect to a technical solution

Demonstrated ability to bring the benefits of technology to solve business issues while also managing costs and risk

Able to influence decisions at various levels of corporate management

Graduate Degree in Computer Science, IS, IT, MIS, Engineering, or possession of a sufficient work history to demonstrate equivalence

Strong business orientation with broad experience managing information technology or related activities

Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of non-technical internal clients

Strong organizational skills and manage central IS departmental resources and applications as well as coordinate other department’s resources and initiatives

Superb leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. An ability to function in a collaborative and collegial environment
Responsibilities:

Collaborating with the Head of IT and other senior managers to develop long-range information systems strategies and goals
-
Advising the Head of IT on information technology trends, major technical problems
-
Applications development: new and existing for enterprise initiatives and overall coordination for departmental initiatives (E.G. MRI, S.T.A.R.)
-
Design, manage, evaluate and modify the company’s core information technology assets
-
Planning, implementation, direction and evaluation of feasibility studies
-
Recommending, as needed major capital expenditures, software upgrades
-
Providing input into the Information Systems department strategic plan and budget
-
Providing other department’s counsel on various other technology issues related to company goals
-
Managing all network operations, including systems administration, network management, and assuring that routine network maintenance procedures are followed. Managing and resolution of all network problems in a timely and cost effective manner
-
Sourcing: build versus buy decisions relative to outsourcing vs. in-house provisioning of technology services and skills, considering various information technology scenarios, including their permutations, and align only those optimal plans to the strategic benefit of the enterprise where information technology can be most leveraged
-
Design and maintain the information systems budget at the lowest sustainable levels, while delivering quality outcomes
-
Managing general and administrative telecommunications expenditures, computer and computer-related services and equipment affecting costs savings through rigorous examination and economies of scale
-
Making financial strategic trade-off decisions between value for the enterprise and technology expense, in terms of capital outlay, opportunity cost, maintenance, and implementation risk
-
Business technology planning process: sponsor collaborative planning processes
-
Overseeing the network configuration and recommend topology changes as necessary
-
Developing and enforcing policies and procedures pertaining to information security
-
Overseeing the company’s technical risk management initiatives, including disaster recovery plans and daily redundancy initiatives, maintaining, documenting, updating, and archiving all operating procedures in accordance with best practices including but not limited to: all system and disaster recovery procedures and assignments, daily back-up procedures and backup storage requirements, hardware and certain application maintenance and audits and the enforcement of all security measures

Executing various Sarbanes-Oxley 404 internal control tests directly, including CO4, CO11, and CO22
-
Information technology infrastructure and architecture (I.E. computers and networks): running as well as ensuring ongoing investments are made
-
Recruiting and retaining a world-class information technology team, capable of continual growth, self-management, and discontinuous innovation
-
Coaching senior information technology managers on professional style, tactical capability tracks, and career development
-
Overseeing the duties of team staff members, including a network administrator and network engineer
-
Support and training: provide technical support and training for all users to ensure productive use of existing and new systems. Mentoring team members in technical issues and business acumen
