How can you make a difference as our Controller?

In the Controller role, you'll report to our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and lead and oversee all aspects of the accounting operations, and development and/or enforcement of internal controls, financial policies, budgets, compliance and procedures of the organization. In this collaborative, dynamic, team leadership and relationship-building Controller role, you'll handle all things accounting. Whether you're handling financial statements, banking operations or taxes, your accounting, analytical and communication skills will help you to win and make a significant contribution to the organization's continued growth and success.

What will your success look like in this role?

· Accounting Operational Excellence: The Controller diligently manages the accounting function, oversees all day-to-day accounting operations, and directly supervises various finance and accounting professionals. You'll have functional responsibility over general and real estate/construction accounting, AP/AR, payroll, treasury management, financial reporting, grants management and billings. You'll lead the organization in accounting operational excellence and maintain the financial health for the organization, and have direct oversight on all aspects of Development and Portfolio accounting including technical analysis and guidance to the fiscal team to ensure compliance with US GAAP and regulatory requirements. You'll design and/or improv effective accounting systems, functions and internal controls. Conscientiously, you'll ensure that we comply with tax and regulatory reporting rules, complete audits and tax returns,

and interface with external auditors for reviews and audits. You'll manage and track the performance of invested assets, oversee and support portfolio and real estate accounting, and act as technical support and work in collaboration with Housing Development department on LIHTC cost certifications audits and permanent conversion process.

· Leadership and Team Management: Your leadership and team management skills will provide exceptional coaching, proactive performance feedback, and training for the development of a staff of 10, in collaboration with three capable and dedicated managers. The Controller will leverage strengths of the fiscal team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities, and develop and implement training programs for career development in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals. You'll recruit, interview and hire for directly supervised position vacancies.

· Partnerships and Building Relationships: The Controller embodies the organization's values of respect, compassion, empowerment and teamwork. You'll partner with and support the CFO in engaging the audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial results, management reports as needed to evaluate progress, and in managing organizational cash flow, forecasting and financial planning. You'll support department leaders through the annual organizational budget process, and develop and manage strong relationships with external auditors and tax preparers.

What do you need to bring to the job?

· Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience. Master's Degree and/or licensed CPA a plus.

· 7 years of progressive experience in finance and 5 years of experience in staff management.

· 3 years of experience in nonprofit/real estate/construction accounting and/or auditing.

· Experience with LIHTC and the affordable housing industry, and MIP and/or Yardi softwares all a plus.

· Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting. Ability to analyze and handle complex operational and financial situations.

· Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board and external partners.

· Ability to mentor and lead staff and foster a team environment, and use the organization's mission and values to lead and inspire teams.
